The Impact of High-Quality vs. Low-Quality Hot Melt Adhesives on Disposable Dog Pee Pads

Hot melt adhesive is a core bonding material for disposable dog pee pads, serving to fix the multi-layer structure including the diversion layer, absorbent core, and waterproof bottom layer. Its quality directly determines the usability, durability, and safety of the dog pee pads. The comparison is as follows:

Positive Impacts of High-Quality Hot Melt Adhesives on Dog Pee Pads

Strong Interlayer Adhesion, Impact-Resistant and Non-Delaminating

High-quality hot melt adhesive boasts high bonding strength and stable curing, which can firmly adhere the pee pad's diversion layer, fluff pulp absorbent core, and waterproof bottom layer. Even after being stepped on, scratched by dogs, or soaked in urine, the pad will not delaminate or curl at the edges. This ensures the absorbent core remains in place without clumping, maintaining rapid absorption and leak-proof performance.

Excellent Temperature Resistance, Suitable for Multi-Scenario Transportation and Storage

It has good high and low-temperature resistance, enabling the dog pee pads to avoid adhesive layer softening, glue overflow, or embrittlement cracking due to temperature changes in harsh environments such as summer maritime transportation (high temperature and humidity) and winter warehousing (low temperature). The product performance remains stable throughout its shelf life.

Safe, Eco-Friendly, and Odorless

High-quality hot melt adhesive contains extremely low levels of volatile harmful substances such as formaldehyde and benzene, making dog pads safe, eco-friendly, and free of pungent odors.

With good fluidity when melted, it can be evenly sprayed or blade-coated, featuring a reasonable distribution of glue dots. It will not block the penetration channels of the diversion layer or cover the fluff pulp in the absorbent core, thus ensuring the pee pad's rapid absorption speed and water-locking capacity are not compromised.

Negative Impacts of Low-Quality Hot Melt Adhesives on Dog Pee Pads

Low-quality hot melt adhesive has weak bonding strength and poor toughness after curing. When the dog pee pad comes into contact with urine or is subjected to external pressure, it is highly susceptible to delamination and debonding. The absorbent core will shift and clump as a result, causing urine side leakage; if the waterproof bottom layer detaches, it will lead to direct leakage onto the floor, completely losing the leak-proof function.

In high-temperature environments, the adhesive layer tends to soften and overflow, resulting in the pee pads sticking together in clumps and being difficult to tear apart for use. In low-temperature environments, the adhesive layer becomes brittle and cracks, causing delamination of the pee pads, which significantly reduces the product qualification rate and increases the risk of returns.

Low-quality hot melt adhesive may contain low-cost industrial additives and harmful substances such as formaldehyde and benzene series. It will emit pungent odors, and long-term contact of pets with pee pads made with such adhesive may trigger skin allergies and respiratory discomfort.

It has poor fluidity when melted, which easily causes glue dot accumulation or missing glue application. Glue accumulation will block the diversion layer, slowing down the urine penetration speed; missing glue areas will lead to delamination, ultimately reducing the absorption efficiency and durability of the pee pad.
